Louisiana Energy Services
Background
Louisiana Energy Services (LES) was established by an international consortium to achieve the goal of building the first centrifuge uranium enrichment plant in the United States. Called the National Enrichment Facility, the plant will supply enriched uranium for US atomic power reactors.
When complete, it is estimated that the facility’s capacity to produce enriched uranium for nuclear fuel will allow it to provide approximately 10% of America’s electricity needs.
Challenge
LES is committed to meet US regulatory security requirements for this $3 billion project —without impacting workflow. At the same time, they needed to meet an aggressive construction schedule.
Solution
To meet the challenge, Critigen assembled a team of security experts that not only had experience with similar projects, but also had previously worked together on numerous projects.
The team’s extensive knowledge of the security profession and familiarity with government regulations allowed them to hit the ground running. As the project grew into a turnkey electronic security system, Critigen added leading industry vendors and systems integrators to the team.
Result
Critigen’s team approach allowed the project to proceed with construction—even as engineering was being finalized. It ensured flexibility throughout the process of meeting ongoing changes due to facility construction delays and design changes.
To date, Critigen has met every milestone and successfully passed all regulatory security inspections, including two inspections with no deficiencies or observations of note.
