An Indelible Impact

What do we mean by “modernizing” critical infrastructure (CI)? The answer is three-fold. Critigen considers critical infrastructure sectors to be modernized when the sectors are synchronized, easily scalable, and successfully remediated.

Synchronize Silos

Many critical infrastructure sectors have long been disparate in both planning and action. Great inefficiency is the result. Critigen’s services establish a framework that provides a broader perspective to integrate the traditionally siloed sectors. The result? Improved decision-making, as well as increased efficiency and collaboration through integrated data and communication sources, systems, and processes.

Simplify Scalability

All agencies that provide essential services are faced with the need to keep pace with demands for services caused by rapidly increasing population growth, more integrated and stimulated societies, and critical infrastructure advances. In this climate, scalability can cause challenges instead of opportunities.

Critigen leverages technology to help clients plan for scalability. For example, we integrate spatial data with synchronized databases to depict optimal locations for water wells for water sector clients. For transportation clients, we predict traffic flow and challenges created by the introduction of a new bridge or subway system.

We help clients transform growth challenges into growth opportunities to create efficiencies for sector scalability and to help dismantle siloed sectors.

Successfully Remediate

Environmental issues, including climate change, have an enormous effect on critical infrastructure. Its impact is evident in rising sea levels, saltwater intrusion, severe weather, flooding, erosion, and poor air quality—issues that all cities and critical infrastructure agencies will eventually have to address.

Critigen specializes in helping private and public sectors to positively impact carbon reduction, energy transformation, and climate change. For example, we have turned a paradigm of consumption in San Francisco into a promise of sustainability. And we’ve helped the United Arab Emirates transform carbon communities into sources of solar power.

Through modernization, Critigen helps clients to sustain the viability of their critical infrastructure systems.

Aging Infrastructure and Decreased Budgets

Posted: 2/11/2010

How local governments can use technology to maximize ROI on infrastructure assets in 2010 and beyond.
In today’s age of decreasing budgets, the demand for public funding and the competition among local, state, and federal officials for scarce resources generally results in officials making decisions that provide only for the most immediate needs. Decisions about long-term capital expenditures usually get deferred. Often officials do not have the ability to evaluate the risks associated with their decisions and the consequences of deferring maintenance or capital improvements that extend into the future well beyond their time in office.
