Critigen works with CH2M HILL to Help Aurora Water Save Nearly $100M

$659 Million Water-Purification and -Recycling System to be Completed Ahead of Schedule and Under Budget

DENVER - April 30, 2010 - Critigen, a global technology consultancy for critical infrastructure, today announced its technology solutions to streamline CH2M HILL’s construction of Aurora Water’s (Colo.) Prairie Waters will enable the project to be completed ahead of schedule and under budget. The three-year project is 90 percent complete and was originally thought to cost $754 million, but is now only expected to cost the city $659 million.

Aurora Water initiated the Prairie Waters project as a series of proactive steps to strengthen the reliability of its existing water system, expand water conservation measures, increase the city’s water supply and provide more water storage.

Critigen contributed to Prairie Waters’ success by delivering PrairieNet, a Web-based application using a suite of off-the shelf technologies to provide document control, collaboration sites, a GIS map interface containing important permitting and land documents and workflow automation for construction contract documentation. Traditionally, many of these construction and program management business processes were accomplished manually. PrairieNet’s single-data source has ensured team consistency and effectiveness.

“Developing PrairieNet was important to this program’s success,” said Rod Brauer, regional business group manager of CH2M HILL’s Water Business Group. “My experience with Critigen on this project suggests a partnership opportunity to develop standardized IT solutions for program management information systems that could be offered across the spectrum of programs that CH2M HILL’s Water Business Group delivers.”

Upon completion in 2010, the project will increase Aurora’s annual water supply by 3.3 billion gallons and provide additional water to Aurora’s citizens for decades.
