Do you know where your assets are?

This market segment serves all aspects of the petroleum products and natural gas business including the processes of finding, extracting, transporting, refining, and distribution of oil and gas products.

Delivering Mobile Innovation

Critigen uses spatial expertise to help Oil and Gas companies identify the location of their assets and their associated attributes. Once assets are correctly represented in a spatial data base and visible on a map, location can then be used to make critical business decisions regarding assets. Business decisions enhanced by the use of spatial data include operational concerns such as the scheduling and maintenance of assets. Additionally spatial context enhances analytics and provides a deep situational awareness informing management and executive decision-making.

Offline Field Mobilization

Assets in an oilfield are mobile and distributed over a large area; operators need to keep track of the location of assets, maintenance data, and asset’s relationship to each other. With maintenance personnel working over such a large area, the ability to quickly find assets and prioritize maintenance activities based the correct location, maintenance history, and spatial relationships provides real value and savings.

Work order management systems tightly integrated with geospatial information systems provide location data, access to maintenance records, and situational awareness that greatly enhances the efficiency of maintenance activities by reducing windshield time and “return to complete” service.

Success stories

Colonial Pipeline Company

From Texas to New Jersey, Colonial Pipeline manages 5,500 miles of pipe, and over 500 tanks that connect to 260 terminals. Delivering fuel safely and efficiently to customers in 11 states requires technological innovation and teamwork, both in the field and in the office. To help them meet their operational goals, Colonial Pipeline hired Critigen to enhance the management of storage tanks.

Regulations mandate tank inspections and maintenance at defined intervals. Managers and tank crews need information about individual tanks including: location, type of contents, construction method, roof type, characteristics of wells, vents, drains, and courses, type and application dates of coating/paint, and inspection and maintenance history. Critigen worked closely with Colonial’s operations team to efficiently track, visualize, and distribute an accurate, up-to-date operational view of tank conditions and characteristics to all parties through the creation of a tank web application.

Employees who make use of this solution may work in the field or office and the application provides the appropriate level of access based on pre-defined roles for viewers, editors, and inspectors. The functionality enabled for each role gives the user exactly what they need to quickly complete their task.

Key benefits include:

  • A tablet-friendly tank inspection web mapping application
  • A map interface that makes it easy to visually search for tank information
  • At-a-glance tank inspection status using information-rich map symbols
  • Data drill-down capability to quickly find all data related to a tank or tank component using the same map interface
  • Built-in user input validation for improved data integrity on all edits
  • A single system of record for tank location, asset information, and maintenance

With the new tank inspection web-mapping application, Colonial Pipeline is better able to meet their operational goals of clean, safe, and efficient delivery of fuel to their customers, all while keeping costs as low as possible.
